PROMOTING WEB SITES
by Polly von Thaden on 03/31/11Building a web site can be very time consuming and finding ways to promote them even more so. It all depends on where you want to take it... Are you planning to make money? [I'm not.] What are your intentions? [Just to help other's in their quest for information on various disabilities.] Do you expect it to become popular? [Well, I'd hope so or what's the sense!]
My last (and original Information Highway for the disABLED) was relatively well established and only required occasional maintenance, but like an idiot I discontinued that site as I didn't feel as if it was making a difference. Found out otherwise when my friends and family started asking me, "Hey, I sent so-and-so to your site for some information, but it's not there any more! Can you help them?"
So, here I am. Rebuilding my site.
Right now, it's very time consuming. I'm having to do all my research all over again, finding appropriate sites correlating with the relationship to the site. Lost everything when I discontinued the original site. [Mentally kicking myself!] One must use the right key words too. [One should use words related to your site, but many tend to just go with whatever the hot topic of the moment may be just to draw their ratings up.] I have to promote it to get it back up in the search engine ratings again. Again, very time consuming!
One of the fastest ways to promote a site - outside of going broke by paying for advertising - is by LinkSharing. That's what all the advertisement is about on my pages right now... The more I have, the more my ratings go up. And admittedly, if you click on those links and then buy something, I will be compensated for it. However, the amounts I'd earn won't even pay for my hosting this site! Crazy, huh?
But it's all for an A-W-E-S-O-M-E cause!
